Abstract Agritourism is an alternative tourism form that provides first-hand experience of agricultural practices in farmers’ fields, authentic cuisines tastes, live rural celebrations and forms of arts. It is not a new practice, but gaining importance because of its’ role in the creation of alternative income to farmers, and employment to rural youth. Maharashtra is the pioneer in agritourism and it has given importance in Maharashtra Tourism Policy 2016 by incorporating agritourism as one of the major potential areas to help small farmers. Now, the Government of Maharashtra has come up with clear guidelines to boost agritourism through its Agri Tourism Policy 2020. This paper discusses the complete details of the growth of Agritourism from a pilot project to an exclusive state public policy and its benefits to farmers, rural youth and women engaged in agriculture.
