Abstract

The conventional methods for determining the saturated hydraulic conductivity were evaluated for the design of subsurface drainage system. The values computed by drain outflow method were relatively higher than the ones measured by the auger hole method. The former method represents a larger sampled space and thus provides an opportunity for selection of appropriate values far cost effective subsurface drainage design. The values as observed by the long term infiltration study under surface ponded condition were low. It is necessary to adopt other measures alternative to conventional drainage for achieving soil workability.
