Abstract

Water is the most important ingredient required to maintain life on Earth. Increased population and the need for food security have increased the demand for irrigation water, which can only be met by making smart use of available water resources. The continuing low yields in rain-fed regions emphasize the importance of irrigation in the country. To address this issue, the "Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana" (PMKSY) was launched in 2015 with the purpose of attaining convergence of irrigation sector investments at the field level. Despite being a state with abundant water resources, Uttarakhand is primarily rain-fed. The production and net irrigated area are not growing much despite having an important number of beneficiaries and active schemes. As a result, there was a need to investigate the attitudes of PMKSY beneficiaries in Uttarakhand's Garhwal region. The study was carried out in the Dehradun district of Uttarakhand, which was chosen on purpose since it has the greatest number of beneficiaries. Four villages were chosen at random from two blocks. The Probability Proportionate to Size (PPS) approach was used to choose 122 farmers. The study found that social participation, annual income, land holding, cropping intensity and information seeking behaviour had a significant positive relationship with attitude of farmers towards PMKSY. Age, education and farming experience were found to have no significant relationship with attitude of farmers towards PMKSY.
