Abstract

Nutrient management is a cornerstone of optimizing sugarcane productivity. Ensuring the right balance of nutrients through sound practices enhances growth, yield, and sucrose content, ultimately leading to increase sugarcane productivity. By adopting appropriate nutrient management strategies, farmers can achieve economic benefits, contribute to the sugar industry's growth, and sustainable agriculture for a better future. A field experiment was conducted in the year of 2021-22 at the farm of Genda Singh Sugarcane Breeding and Research Institute, Seorahi Kushinagar in the spring season to find out the suitable nutrient management in green manure pulse intercropped sugarcane cultivation in randomized block design in three replications. The soil of the experimental plot was medium in organic carbon, medium in available phosphorus, and low in potash with pH 8.04. The experiment consisted of eight treatments. Experimental data revealed that germination per cent was not affected significantly by different treatments. Effect on shoot population, NMC and cane yield with recommended NPK through inorganic fertilizers + press mud @20 t/ha practice and its produced significantly higher shoot population (160.79 thousand ha-1), number of millable cane (124.83 thousand ha-1) and cane yield (86.71 t/ha) but at par with recommended NPK through inorganic fertilizers + press mud @10t/ha+PSB@10kg/ha practice. Effect of different treatments on juice quality was also non significant but maximum value of CCS per cent was noted in recommended NPK through inorganic fertilizers + press mud @20 t/ha (13.10 per cent)
