Abstract The present study is an attempt to assess the influence of age and type of occupation on social support among Iranian women in Esfahan Province. A total of 880 Iranian women randomly selected from Esfahan province for the present study. They were administered social support questionnaire (Mahadevan, 1987), which measured social support from friends, relatives, neighbours and other sources. The results were analyzed through One-way ANOVA. Results revealed that in support from friends respondents in the age group of 51–65 years were found to have higher social support from friends, followed by above 65 years and 21–35 years compared to respondents in other age groups. In support from neighbours, it was observed that respondents above age group of 65 years and below 20 years had higher social support than respondents with other age groups. Respondents in the age group of 51–65 years had higher social support in other sources compared to respondents with other age groups. In total social support, it was found that respondents in the age group of 51–65 years and above 65 years had higher social support compared to respondents in other age groups. Further, it was found that self employed professionals had least social support compared to all other professionals.
