Abstract The external health care environment is often described as hyper turbulent, which means managers cannot find and implement solutions to a particular problem before the nature and score of the problem changes. This type of decision making environment results in managers collectively turning their attention to those matters with which they are most comfortable or that are the most visible or best understood. At this juncture, this paper attempts to understand the dynamics of quality of healthcare and its impact on patient satisfaction in public and private hospitals in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. To accomplish this objective, the degree of patient satisfaction using service quality dimensions, means, standard deviations were computed according to the type of the hospitals and the other independent variables apart from the socio-economic variables of the patients. In order to know the mean differences, t-test and f-test were computed wherever necessary. Further, correlations and regression analysis were computed in order to test the null hypothesis that there is no relationship between perceived service quality and the patient satisfaction. It was found from null hypothesis testing that, out of nine tables, it was found that except in two tables; the patient satisfaction was not found significantly varying according to the personal background variables.
