Credit services of banks in belgaum district-a diagnostic study

Abstract

The survival and development of Indian banks are fully influenced by the system of credit creation, which is the second major function of banks, can be under taken according to the credit policy of R.B.I. This study focuses banking performance of the Belgaum district (Karnataka) in the criteria of loans and advances as per bank group wise, area wise, branch wise, for the study period of six years. Important statistical tools such as percentage, A.M., standard deviation, coefficient of variation and compound annual growth rate have been used to analyses the data. The study reveals that nationalized bank shows highest share in the average advances of the district followed by urban co-op banks and private sector banks. But regarding the compound growth rate of advances is concerned nationalized banks shows poor performance as compared to private sector banks, urban co-op. banks and BDCC banks. So, nationalized banks should apply innovative marketing strategies to compete with the other banking groups.
