Investigating the Relationship of Intellectual Capital with Financial Performance and Market Value of the Admitted Companies in Tehran Stock Exchange with an Emphasis on Knowledge-based Industries

Abstract

Within the present science-based economy, intellectual capital is the main factor of privilege and competitive superiority. This factor is even more important in Iran due to the characteristics of the decade of development and justice. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of intellectual capital and its component on market value and financial performance of the knowledgee-based industry. Pulic Model has been used to measure intellectual capital. The study covers the years 2009–2014, and the sample consists of 33 companies. The research has been done using Data Panel Regression. Findings show a significant relationship between intellectual capital with market value and financial performance. Also the results reveal that among the components of intellectual capital, efficacy of the applied capital has the most effect on the Earning Per Share of knowledge-based industries, also that the contributions of human capital to create additional value cannot be ignored in knowledge-based industries.
