Abstract

Institutional Investors have the advantage of influencing the stock market with their high trade volume and larger investments. These investors’ net investments are highly correlated with Market returns and explicitly influence the returns and volatility during the study period. Domestic and Foreign Institutional Investors’ net investments are negatively correlated. Total investments of these Institutional investors cause the fluctuations in the market indices resulting in increased volatility of market and influencing the market trend. Domestic Institutional Investors are appearing to be defending the market from the down-side with their investments. But their investments seem not to be enough to revive the market during the period of negative returns.
