Abstract In today's competitive business environment, perhaps only the big market players can best survive. They are scrambling for even the smallest piece of market share amongst intensive competition and shrinking profit margins. In such a situation, taking over the control of a renowned, larger and bigger company comes with a lot of challenges and requires a strong determination. The present case discusses the story of an Indian company named “Shiva India limited” that acquired a well known global lighting company “Uma electricals”. The Indian company had ambitions to become a global organization with this acquisition; however, after acquisition Uma electrical came under a high financial crisis during the global meltdown in 2008. The case highlights the dilemma and challenges of Shiva India limited (SIL), who designed a project of resurrecting Uma electrical with innovative strategic plans and implemented them firmly in the face of adversity to finally turnaround Uma electricals.
