Abstract We report efficient and extremely fast procedures for the synthesis of 3-chloro-4-(4-(diethylamino)-2-hydroxyphenyl)-1-(substitutedphenyl)-azetidin-2-one using 4-diethylamino-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde, various amines and chloroacetyl chloride in presence of triethylamine under microwave irradiation (fw) and similarly, conventional methods are used for comparison. A considerable increase in the reaction rate has been observed with better yield in microwave technique. The structures of the compounds were confirmed by elemental analysis and spectral analysis (1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and Mass). All the compounds have been screened for their antifungal activity and their antibacterial activity against various gram +ve and gram –ve bacteria. Top Keywords 4-diethylamino-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde, azetidin-2-one, Microwave method, antimicrobial activity. Top |
