Arrivals and Price Behaviour of Groundnut in selected Markets of Andhra Pradesh

Abstract

All the market showed an increasing trend in the arrivals of groundnut over the years. In Kurnool market the arrivals were highest and were noticed to increase by 11120.28 qtls every year and 87 per cent of change in arrivals was contributed by the independent variable, time. The extent of increase in the arrivals varied from one market to another. The results revealed that there was an increasing trend in the prices of groundnut. The annual increase in the prices of groundnut was found to be highest in Karimnagar market (Rs 28.76/qtl), whereas it was lowest in Kurnool market (Rs 10.28/qtl). The contribution of time to change in prices was to the extent of 58 per cent. The extent of increase in the prices varied from one market to another. The arrivals of groundnut were found to be highest in November and December as revealed by the indices in Adoni market, while the same were highest in August in the markets of Badepalli and Gadwal. Lowest arrivals were conspicuous in July and August in Adoni market and January, May and April in Badepalli market. In Adoni market, highest seasonal index was found in November for groundnut. Lowest index was recorded in January. In Badepalli market highest index was in January, while the minimum index was in February. In Kurnool market, April witnessed peak seasonal price index of 107.8. The price index was lowest in September. The coefficient of multiple determination (R2) was 0.64 in Kurnool market, duly revealing that the independent variable, price contributed 64 per cent of change in arrivals of groundnut and was found statistically significant. The lowest coefficient of multiple determination (R2) of 0.06 was observed in Gadwal market.
