Airport infrastructure development for enhancement of tourism in Coimbatore

Abstract

The Indian Economy is fast developing fastly, chasing the growth path. Tourism has emerged as one of the world's largest industry and fastly growing sector of the world economy. India has a large and fairly well developed infrastructure framework extending to all parts of the country. Infrastructure refers to all those services and facilities that constitute the basic support system of an economy. It is the foundation on which the day to day function of all the economic activities of a country depends. It consists of the transportation network in the form of Railways, roadways, port and civil aviation. It is now increasingly recognized that aviation, is crucial for sustainable development of trade and tourism and not a mere mode of transportation for an elite group. In this context, it is vital that airport infrastructure grows in anticipation of the escalating needs of the air transport industry. This paper includes Coimbatore Airport's infrastructural development since inception and its role in enhancing the medical tourism and international business for this a small study was conducted in Coimbatore and Sangameshan Garments in tirupur. Due to time constraint only secondary data was collected and appropriate tools were used for analyzing and arriving the result.
