‘The Wasteland’ as a Postmodern Text Dr. Baruah Leena Bardoloi Associate Professor, Department of English, Rangia College, Assam, India Online published on 7 May, 2014. Abstract As we move into the postmodern and the post postmodern age, it is time that we glance back at one of the landmark texts of the Modern Period, a text that many critics say announced the Modern times- The Wasteland. Today, through the perspective of postmodernism, I daresay we can look back at this text by a ‘high modernist’ and it will not be wrong to claim that it could be viewed as one of the pioneers of the postmodern movement. This paper attempts to re-read The Wasteland as a postmodern text and proposes that it anticipated a number of the foremost theories of Postmodernism. Top Keywords Postmodern, deconstruction, text, unreal, fragmentation. Top | |
