Abstract

Fault tolerant control (FTC) with reconfiguring mechanism is presented in this paper. The classification of FTC is elaborated along with its design considerations, methods of utilization and its applications. FTC is normally applied to control systems which are complex in nature. Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) is a non-linear system in which the control mechanism plays a major role. Non-linear control systems along with their information related to inter disciplinary control and expertise uses this FTC. Redundancy of FTC is a major cause which deals with the system that is to be controlled. The safety/system integrity and performance metrics should also be taken into account while designing this fault tolerant control system. Fault Detection and Diagnosis (FDD) plays a major role in Non-linear dynamic systems. FTC normally works on the information from the FDD unit which helps in compensating the faults and provide a suitable reconfiguration mechanism after fault isolation. A system is said to be more effective only if the stability of the post FTC system with reconfiguration is achieved.
