Abstract The main aim of this study is to find out the difficulties/hurdles and stress faced by the employed couples before going to their job and how far the hurdles and stress affects their job performance with special references to couples working as school teacher in karur district, to suggest remedial measures to overcome the difficulties and stress. The important statistical tool used in this research is percentage analysis, hypothesis testing-F-test, Z-test and factor analysis. From the study it was found that among employed couples who working as school teachers, female respondents face more difficulties or hurdles compared to male counterparts since they have multiple roles. Gender differential was found to be wide. The difficulties that creates high level of stress for female respondents than male counter parts before going to their job are as follows Purchasing household items like vegetables, fruits and other things needed for family, supervising their children's homework, getting them ready in time for school, catching the institution vehicle on time, driving in the morning trafic.
