Abstract

Gears are one of the very essential components in mechanical power transmission system and industrial rotating machinery. Generally gears are made from metallic materials but in present days advanced polymer materials are developed that have sufficient strength and properties which is similar to the metallic materials so it can easily replace the metallic gears if some care will be taken. 25% SiC fiber reinforced polymer composites is more attractive than 10% SiC fiber reinforced polymer composites because their higher strength and light weight. SiC fiber reinforced polymers are finding in many applications. This paper presents the effect on microstructure and the mechanical properties of SiC fiber reinforced composite materials such as, tensile strength, compression strength and impact strength are evaluated. On processing, the work materials are observed to increase their tensile and yield strength. The observation has been elaborated in detail with the microstructures of SiC fiber and processed specimens.
