Stress Analysis of Oval Pipe Bend with Attached Pipe using Finite Element Analysis Sellakumar S.*, Venkatasamy R.** *Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Saveetha Engineering College, India **Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Saveetha Engineering College, India Online published on 14 October, 2016. Abstract Pipe bends are most important necessity for all kind of industries in terms of pipelining materials. Pipe bend is very difficult to avoid the thinning on the inner side of the bend and thinking of the outer side of the bend. The pipe bend produces more flexibleness compare with the straight pipes because of the ovality effect. The bend section is the weaker part in high pressure application because the pipe bend will be made with the ovality. The ovality is the main cause to fail the pipe. In this proposed system, the dimensional element analysis method is applied to model and analysis stand alone, long radios inlet pigtail pipe bend with attached support pipe used in hydrogen reformer application. It is prsented that the effect of ovality is important in the pipe bend with attached straight pipe due to internal pressure and elevated temperature. The induced stress, strain in the pipe bend geometry also increases with the percentage of ovality. It leads to improve the pipe quality and trustworthiness in terms of pipe bend analysis.
