Abstract

In the modern world, women are struggling to face many problems in their married lives. A woman is expected to take over the traditional roles such as mother, daughter and sister, and especially as a wife or a home-maker who has to dedicate her whole life for the welfare of her family. A family expects a woman to live only for the sake of the others” happiness, but not for her own. No one realizes her quest for self realization throughout her life. After her marriage her whole life depends on her husband and children. That puts her in a pathetic situation where it is quite difficult for her to overcome the male domination. Generally, women are expected to adjust in all the situations of their lives not only with their husbands, but also with the relations of the society to which they belong. Hence, this paper deals with sufferings and adjustable life lead by the women protagonists of Shashi Deshpande in her selected novels “That Long Silence and Small Remedies”.
