Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the kharif season 2013–14 at the Research farm of Department of Agronomy, Dr. PDKV, Akola. (MS) “Efficacy of marine algal sap biochemical constituent of soybean”. Treatments imposed on soybean crop consisted of six combinations of sea weed liquid fertilizer andone control, namely FS0-(No application of seaweed sap, RDF common is applied), FS1: K-sap@5%+RDF, FS2: K-sap@10%+RDF, FS3: K-sap@15%+RDF, FS4: G-sap@5%+RDF, FS5: G-sap@10%+RDF and FS6: G-sap@15%+RDF. The other cultural practices were kept common, as recommended. The foliar spray was applied twice at 25 and 45 DAS with different concentrations (0, 5.0, 10.0 and 15.0% v/v) of marine algal sap (Kappaphycus and Gracilaria). The obtained results revealed that foliar spraying of marine algal sap (Kappaphycus sap and Gracilaria sap) had a significant effect on biochemical constituent (chlorophyll content. protein and oil yield, kg ha−1) when compared with the control at flowering, fruiting and pod development stage. The highest level of biochemical constituent i.e. chlorophyll (a, b and total) and carotenoid content were detected by foliar spraying G-sap@15% followed by Ksap@15%, G-sap@10%, K-sap@10 and percentage increase of total chlorophyll content (19.74%, 23.00% and 20.35%) and carotenoid content was (34.23%, 38.16% and 29.76%i) at flowering, fruiting and pod development stage. Among all growth stages fruiting stage recorded highest total chlorophyll (2.452 mg g−1 fr wt) and carotenoids (0.875 mg g−1 fr wt) content in soybean crop. Production of protein and oil yield also recorded in foliar spraying of marine algal sap i.e G-sap@15% and percent increased of protein yield and oil yield were 26.26% and 26.04% respectively compared to control.
