Understanding gender and its interplay in the Indian Labour Market

Abstract

The paper aims to investigate the gender dynamics within the discourse on labour. It delves into various literature to comprehend the influence of societal norms on the representation of women in labour. The paper examines the gender disparities in unpaid work in India and the different theories that explain the gender wage gap. Furthermore, it explores disparities in tural and urban settings for men and women by comparing wages and unemployment. The paper highlights the significant gender pay gap in both urban and rural areas. Additionally, it explores the literature on the conditions in the informal sector.
