But these synthetic prosthesis cannot replace the structural functions of tissues. Such problems have led to the development of tissue engineering and regenerative techniques which involves the development of functional tissue with the ability to replace or repair the missing or damaged tissues. Tissue engineering is a novel and highly exciting field of research. The purpose of this review is to provide an insight into the principles underlying tissue engineering and the strategies which can be applied to endodontics for the regeneration of functional pulp-dentin complex.
