Online published on 7 December, 2011. Abstract Dental caries afflicts humans of all ages and In all regions of the world. The distribution and severity of oral diseases vary In different parts of the world and within the same region. The epidemiological studies help In assessment of need for planning of oral health services or organization of public health intervention programmes. The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of dental caries In school going children of rural and urban areas of Farldkot district. Sample consisted 1200 school going children residing in urban and rural areas of Faridkot district. 200 subjects from each age group of 6,9 and 12 years were randomly selected using stratified sampling method from respective urban and rural areas. The prevalence of dental caries was recorded as per WHO oral health assessment criteria 1997. The data obtained was analyzed statistically.
