Online published on 7 December, 2011. Abstract Post-treatment endodontic pain continues to be a significant problem facing the dental profession. Inter-appointment, intra-canal medication has been unequivocally shown to contribute to favorable outcomes when treating endodontic infections. Since endodontic pain is often associated with inflammation, the presence of bacterial by-products, influx of primed immune cells and activation of the cytokine network and other inflammatory mediators, pain may be reduced by administration of glucocorticoid steroids. Except for pain relief corticosteroids has been recommended for Endodontic flare up, Traumatized/replanted teeth, for Apexification, in Regenerative endodontics etc. This review will include the mechanisms of actions of steroids, various conditions where corticosteroids can be used and critiques of the use of corticosteroids Top Keywords Intracanal medicament, pain, reimplantation, endodontic therapy, flare up.
