Online published on 7 December, 2011. Abstract Oral health is a significant concern for women because of its association with overall health and quality of life. Most oral health issues are not gender specific but rather are aspects of condition that may affect women differently. It is important for all oral health care providers to understand basic physiology and reproductive biology and consider the complex interactions between environment, biology and psychosocial development of women. This article addresses various strategies to maintain oral health of female patients to maximize the quality of their lives. Clinicians must share the responsibility to master and recognize the effect of hormonal alterations on oral cavity to provide quality care.
