Abstract Aim The aim of this study is to determine the role of inflammation in the dental follicles of radiologically and clinically asymptomatic impacted third molar teeth. Material and Methods Twenty one dental follicles of radiologically and clinically asymptomatic impacted teeth were stained with Hematoxyllin and Eosin stain to know the role of inflammation in dental follicles. Results Out of twenty one dental follicles, eleven dental follicles showed chronic inflammatory cells in the connective tissue and all of these eleven dental follicles were lined by hyperplastic stratified squamous epithelial lining. Conclusion It can be concluded that inflammation is not a normal feature in the dental follicle. It stimulates the overlying epithelium to undergo proliferation and the epithelium gets converted into stratified squamous epithelium.
