Abstract

Bleeding gums is the most common complaint of patients visiting the department of periodontics. Although the most common cause of gingival bleeding are local etiological factors but at the same time underlying systemic conditions/diseases may also play their role in the causation of disease. This paper deals with the importance of history, clinical and general physical examination supported by investigations whenever there is slightest suspicion of underlying systemic condition/disease. Presented here is a case report of 66 year old male patient who visited the Department of Periodontics in our hospital for spontaneous bleeding gums, unaware of his systemic condition. After thorough history, clinical examination, examination of lymph nodes, Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) investigation it was established as an advanced case of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and was referred to an advanced oncology centre for further treatment aftergiving him initial oral care.
