Abstract The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial efficacy of Aloe Vera, Triphala and 5.25% Sodium hypochlorite against E. faecalis.Solutions of Aloe Vera and Triphala were prepared and compared with 5.25% Sodium hypochlorite by the Disc diffusion method in a Mueller Hinton Agar culture plate for E.faecalis.10 samples were prepared which included Vancomycin as the standard and distilled water as the control.Maximum zone of inhibition was shown by Sodium hypochlorite. Aloe Vera and Triphala also showed significant zones of inhibition as compared to the gold standard Vancomycin. Distilled water did not show any zone. 5.25% Sodium hypochlorite showed maximum antibacterialactivity against E.faecalis. Aloe Vera and Triphala showed statistically significant antibacterial activity. The use of herbal alternatives as a root canal irrigant might prove to be advantageous considering the several undesirable characteristics of Sodium hypochlorite. Top Keywords Aloe Vera, Triphala, Sodium hypochlorite, Enterococcus faecalis. Top |
