Online published on 28 May, 2014. Abstract Due to patient's increased attention to esthetic appearance, the need for getting a perfect shade match has become critical. Faithfully matching the optical properties of each layer increases the likelihood of a shade match and decreases the problem of metamerism. Visual selection with a prefabricated shade guide is the most popular and traditional method of shade selection in dentistry. The increased emphasis on dental esthetics in recent years has driven the search for a more accurate shade-replication procedure than the present methods provide. DIGITAL SHADE SELECTION DEVICES are the new era. At present we can measure natural teeth shades and check restoration shades with the push of a button.
