Abstract Purpose To evaluate the bond strength of cross linked acrylic teeth to various heat polymerized denture base resins after chemical and mechanical modification. Methods A total of 360 specimens were fabricated using 3 types of denture base resins i.e. heat polymerized, high impact heat polymerized and flexible denture base resins. Out of 360 specimens, 180 were mechanically modified and chemically treated. The remaining 180 were chemically treated. Both the groups were categorized again into 6 sub-groups with each sub group having 10 specimens. The sub groups were named as control, monomer, acetone 99%, chloroform 99%, cyanoacrylate and ethyl acetate 99% respectively. After processing, specimens were tested using a universal testing machine. The results were recorded and statistically analyzed. Results Among all the 3 types of denture base resins, high-impact heat-cure resin showed highest bond strength. Mechanically altered teeth had higher bond strength compared to teeth treated with chemicals. Chemical surface treatment of acrylic teeth with ethyl acetate resulted in highest bond strength followed by control, chloroform, acetone and cyanoacrylate. Chemical surface treatment of Flexible material did not improve the bonding. Conclusion Among all the 3 types of denture base materials, high-impact heat-cure resin showed highest bond strength to mechanically altered teeth.
