Abstract

Molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH) is a commonly occurring developmental disorder of teeth, resulting in typical enamel defects in first permanent molars and permanent incisors. These defects vary in severity and are evident immediately at the eruption. It has a great clinical importance due to its complicated clinical management in terms of high dentinal sensitivity and weak enamel structure that often concerns physicians, general dentists and paediatric dentists. Restorative intervention using stainless steel crowns provides improvement in both appearance and function of affected permanent teeth. Radix entomolaris (RE) is the extra root present in mandibular molars. Early diagnosis of both MIH and RE is essential to prevent acute symptoms and complications and failure in treatment. The purpose of this article is to report a case with an unusual rare presentation of MIH associated with bilateral RE in first permanent molars along with its clinical management. MIH in terms of its definition, synonyms, etiology, clinical presentation and clinical management with special emphasis on clinical implications and recommendations has also been reviewed.
