Online published on 22 August, 2019. Abstract Introduction Alcoholism is the most serious drinking problem. Chronic alcoholism causes severe health problem as well as major social, family and marital problems and also source of stress for family. Alcoholism is linked to Family disruption, violence, marital distress and partly to physical and psychological illness. Individual marriages in which one or both spouses is an alcoholic report higher levels of marital distress ortrouble than married individuals who are not married to alcoholics. Aim To assess psychosocial problems of wives of alcoholics residing in selected rural area of district Faridkot, Punjab. Material and Methods Study design used was Non-experimental descriptive design. Setting of study was rural area village Bajakhana, district Faridkot. Study population was 300 wives of alcoholics. Non Probability convenient sampling technique was used. Psychosocial Problems Assessment Likert Scale was used to assess the psychosocial problems. Results From the total subjects(300), More than half i.e. 222 (74%) subjects of the study were having mild psychosocial problems and more than one third i. e. 72 (24%) had moderate psychosocial problems and only 6 (2%) had severe psychosocial problems. There was a significant association between the psychosocial problems of wives of alcoholics and socio demographic variables i.e. Family income per month, duration ofalcohol consumption, amount ofalcohol consumedper day, use ofany othersubstance along with alcohol.
