Libraries are affordable and accessible institutions for sustainable development of developing countries: A satisfaction survey of library at college of nursing, Adesh University Bathinda, Punjab

Abstract

Introduction

In developing countries like India, it is important that academic libraries be upgraded in such a way that they should satisfy the users ’requirements to fill the gap of information have and information have not, because these are the only affordable and accessible institutions for some brilliant students to make their ways of success and also it is important for the sustainable development of the country wherepovertyis also one ofthe major issues.

Aim

The main aim of this study is to find the users ’satisfaction level with library information services and resources provided by the college under study.

Material and Methods

The data was collected from a sample size of 105 teachers and students selected using convenience method. The investigator used a self-designed questionnaire to collect the data for this study. Out of 105 distributed questionnaires, only 93 returned the questionnaires dully filled in andmade the response rate 88.57%.

Results

72.04% of the respondents indicated that the main aim to visit the library is for borrowing books. The results of the study show that nursing teachers and students mainly use the library services for borrowing resources. The results of the study depicted that a majority of the respondents were satisfied with the library physical resources and its circulation services with 77.41% responses. The results further show that 74. 19% ofthe respondents were satisfied with library staff's behavior.

Conclusion

This study has highlighted the present situation of the nursing college library and there is a need to conduct study in othernursing colleges ofthe Punjab, so that necessary steps can be taken for the development of these special libraries as these libraries are directly connected with the health of the public. Atlast, some suggestions have been put forth formaking the library resources and services more on users ’oriented.
