Abstract Introduction Maternal and Child Health services is the method ofdelivering health care to special group in the population which is especially vulnerable to disease, disability or death. These groups (i.e. children under the age of 5 years and women in reproductive age group (15–44 years) comprise 32.4 percent of the total population in India. The Maternal Child Health services encompass the curative, preventive and social aspects of obstetrics, pediatrics, family welfare, nutrition, child development and health education. Aim The present study aimed to assess the knowledge and attitude of adults regarding maternal and child health services in a selected community health centre of Amritsar, Punjab. Material and Methods A quantitative research approach & non experimental, descriptive cross sectional survey research design was used for the study. The sample of 300 adults was selected by Purposive sampling technique. A structured knowledge questionnaire and 5 point attitude scale was prepared to assess the knowledge and attitude regarding Maternal and Child Health Services among Adults. Results The study findings revealed that majority of adults (43.7%) had average knowledge, 35% had good knowledge, l7.7%below average and only 3.7% had very good knowledge regarding maternal and child health services. Majority (97%) of adults had positive attitude and only 3% had negative attitude regarding maternal and child health services. This study shows that there is positive correlation between knowledge and attitude towards maternal and child health services among adults. There is association of knowledge regarding maternal and child health services with age, educational qualification, occupation, family income and source of information and there is association of attitude towards maternal and child health services with age, occupation and source of information. Conclusion This study shows that majority of the subjects had low knowledge regarding MCH services. There is positive correlation between knowledge and attitude towards maternal and child health services among adults. Appropriate intervention needs to be required to enhance awareness among people about MCH services. Top Keywords Knowledge, attitude, maternal, child health services. Top |
