Level of internet addiction among the adolescent students

Abstract

Introduction

Internet addiction is a psycho physiological disorder involving, tolerance, withdrawal symptoms, affective disturbances and and interruption of social relationships. As the level of Internet addiction is rapidly increasing among students, so researchers focused over the Level of Internet Application among adolescent students.

Aim

This study was undertaken to assess the level of internet addiction among 150 adolescent students studying in med, non-med, arts and commerce school students.

Material and Method

A Driptive, cross-sectional design was used in this study. Data were collected with standardized tool which consist of Young's Internet addiction Test and Internet use behavior questionnaire and socio demographic data sheet. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data.

Result

Results showed that 10 (6.8%) adolescent students were addicted to internet, 58(38.6%) were at risk to be addicted to internet and 82 (54.6%) were average user of internet.

Conclusion

The study concluded that although internet addiction was found low (6%) among adolescent students but many of students were at risk tobe addicted to internet. Early intervention can be helpful to prevent shift at risk students to addicted, so school administration should set counseling cell and other techniques like cognitive behavior therapy and group therapy to prevent and treat internet addiction in the students.
