Common behavioural problems among preschool children reported by mothers

Abstract

Introduction

Behavior problems is defined as when children cannot adjust to complex environment around them, they become unable to behave in a socially acceptable way resulting in exhibition of peculiar behaviors. Behavioral problems are the 5 most, common cause of morbidity, morality and disability among children. Behavioral problems include hyperactivity, anger, frustration, peer problem and prosocial behavior. Most of the common behavioral disorders are treated by behaviour therapy, in which parents and children learn to promote desirable behavior.

Aim

To access the common behavioral problems among preschool children reported by mothers.

Material & Methods

A quantitative research with a descriptive design was selected for present study. Convenient sampling was used and 100 subjects were selected. A socio demographic sheet, standardized child behaviour questionnaireparent vision, (SDQ) Strengths and difficulties questionnaire was selected to assess common behavioural problems of preschool children. Analysis of the data was done by using both descriptive and interferential statistics.

Results

The results of the present study revealed that the 38% of children showing normal behaviour. 32% had borderline behaviour & 30% had abnormal behaviour. There is knowledge with age, residence, educational status, occupational status, family income, number of children & religion statistically significant association.

Conclusion

The finding revealed that more than half of children behavioural problems. So, there is need to organize public health programs for mothers regarding early detection of behavioural problems among their children.
