Socio-econimic benefit of sodic land reclamation and its role in rural development Tripathi R. S. Division of Technology Evaluation and Transfer Central Soil Salinity Research, Karnal-132001. Abstract The Socio economic impact of sodic land reclamation is quite visible in terms of additional food production farm income, employment opportunities alleviation of poverty, awareness about education women empowerment and improved quality of enviroment. Nearly 1.3 million ha sodic land, reclaimed so far is providing 7.8 million tonnes additional foodgrains to the country every year valued are Rs. 46800 million. The employment opportuntities generated by these reclaimed lands are about 175.5 million man days per annum. The farm assets and capital formation estimated Rs. 4.71 lakh per farm during a priod of 10 years due to adoption of reclamtion whereas 24 percent beneficiariess crossed the poverty line. The improvements inquality of soil water enviornment and creation of congenial atmosphere because of the sodic land reclamtion have made direct fovorable impact on agricultural productivity and standard of living of the rural people.
