Abstract

Genetic analysis for leaf rust resistance in ten Indian commercial bread wheat cultivars of diverse origin ciz HD 2329, BD 2402, HD 2643, HI 1077, HP 1731, PBW 343, UP 262, UP 2338, WH 147 and WH 542 was carried out with 3 pathotypes of leaf rust (Puccinia recondite f. sp. tritid) i.e. 77-2 (109R31-1), 104-2 (21R55) and 106(OR9). Segregation of F2 seedlings for resistence to above pathotypes suggested the presence of one dominent gene for resistance in HD 2402, one dominant and one recessive in HD 2329; two domihant genes for resistance each in HI 1077, HP 1731, PBW 343, UP 262, UP 2338, WH 147 and WH 542 and three dominant genes for resistance in HD 2643. Analysis of reciprocal crossing (AL × percent), BC1 and BC2 with above pathotypes confirmed the above results. Based on allelic test Lr 13 in HD 2329, Lr 1 in HD 2643 and Lr 14a in HI 1077 and UP 262 were confirmed. An adult plant resistance gene Lr 34 was confirmed in HD 2329, HD 2402, HP 1731, PBW 343, UP 2338, WH 147 and WH 542 based on mottling effect in the seedlings.
