Abstract The developments in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and its applications have challenged the functioning and services of the Library and Information Centres. The Librarians are forced to develop library portal and motivate the user community to move from print to electronic version which leads quick access to required information and to provide services. The main objective of this paper is to study the impact of e-Resources and Library Portals by professional colleges. SWOT analysis was performed for the development of professional education institutions and SWOT factors were derived on equal weightage. A questionnaire was formed based on SWOT analysis and random sampling was followed to collect data from stakeholders. The study report has been evaluated by a case study in Karaikal region in the Union Territory of Puducherry and the problems encountered are reported along with suggestions to improve the usage level.
