Online published on 24 November, 2014. Abstract Cryptolepis buchanani Roem. & Schult. (Asclepiadaceae) is a twining shrub known as ‘Jambupatra-sariva’ in ayurvedic system of medicine. The roots have medicinal value and it is also used in ethnomedicine by tribal peoples. Decoction of root bark is given for impotency and is useful as lactation for nursing mothers. It is very much interesting that the follicles of the plants bears fiber but there are no scientific studies have been carried out. Therefore, in the present work studies on methods of extraction of fiber, their potentials on several scientific parameters, affinity with dyes, harvest technology adopted by ethnic communities, conservation status etc. have been provided would be most useful for bioprospecting of the species.
