Abstract

A field experiment was carried out during two consecutive rabi seasons (2005–06 and 2006–07) at Research Farm of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur to study the effect of integrated nitrogen management on growth and yield of maize (Zea mays L.). Application of 100 kg N ha−1 + FYM (5 t ha−1) produced higher dry matter at harvest, root dry biomass at 40 and 80 days after sowing (DAS) and at harvest, cob length and grain yield of maize. 100 kg N ha−1 and 60 kg N ha−1 + FYM (5 t ha−1) were, however, at par in terms of grain yield. Inter-seeding of legumes with low amount of inorganic N did not enhance growth and yield of maize. Contrarily, increased amount of inorganic N in combination with organic manure (FYM) increased productivity of maize.
