Seedling dry-weight as a trait for assessing salinity tolerance in mustard at germination stage Lallu, Baghel RS, Singh Anjani, Tripathi DK Oilseed Section, C.S. Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur-208 002, (Uttar Pradesh), India Online published on 15 October, 2015. Abstract Thirty three genotypes of mustard were tested for salinity tolerenace in germination stage at three artificially created salinity levels i.e., 2 (control), 6 and 10 dS m−1 during rabi 2005–06 under laboratory condition. Significant reduction occurred in germination per cent, root length, shoot length, speed of germination, seedling vigour index and dry weight of seedling with increasing salinity levels. Genotypes BIO-169-96, RGN-81, Kranti and Urvashi were identified relatively more salinity tolerant at seedling stage which showed overall minimum reduction (<20%) and also displayed minimum seedling dry weight reduction (<10%) compared to other genotypes. Study also indicated that seedling dry weight may be used as screening trait to identify salinity tolerant genotypes of mustard at seedling stage.
