Abstract Over the last several years, this development has given birth to the notion of the Internet of Things (IoT), which serves as the backbone of the internet. So, to solve this type of issue with technology, we need a technology-based city. Every nation in the world aspires to transform current cities into smart cities or to establish whole new smart cities. We investigated what a smart city is and its characteristics, as well as the enabling technology that can help with urban management and planning. Smart city networks can’t grow as fast as they could because they can’t analyse real-time data and make decisions based on intelligence analysis in real-time, which is important for more advanced smart city networks. In this paper, we proposed architecture is organised into four levels, which are as follows: (1) data acquisition and event generation, which collects heterogeneous data about the city’s operations; (2) Data management/ computation and handling is the process of data filtering, analysis and storage in order to make independent decisions, (3) a decision making and application module, which initiates the successful implementation of events corresponding to the accepted decisions. (4) A user dashboard module that enables users to view critical information and make service requests. Real-time efficiency is the primary focus of this smart city architecture.
