Gender differences in human value orientation

Abstract

Value plays very significant role in human development, whether it is social, emotional or spiritual, and importance of value education is rooted in Indian philosophy and culture too. Educational institutions play significant roles in the development and promotion of human values. Education system also encourages value educations for the better understanding of self. Present paper attempts to examine the gender differences in value orientation among adolescents. For this purpose, Value scale was administered on 50 adolescents (both male and female, with the age range of 18-21 years) of TNB College, TMBU, Bhagalpur city, Bihar). All participants were randomly selected for this study. Data were analyzed with appropriate statistical methods. As predicted, gender difference was found to exist in values of the participants in this study. The results revealed that male and female participants possess different perspectives and orientations towards values, and females are more oriented towards values than males.
