Abstract

Freezing temperature of winters in the Ladakh region arrests the growth of every vegetable even in poly structures. Present investigation aimed to explore the possibilities of cabbage cultivation under different greenhouse structures and workout an ideal structure for successful cabbage production during sub-freezing winters in the region. The experiment was conducted under protected conditions at PFDC Farm, Stakna (Leh) in five types of protected structures viz Chinese type, Mud wall type, Leho type, local type and NV type polyhouses were taken for study with 3 varieties of cabbage viz Golden Acre, Pride of India and KGMR-l. Comparison was done among the protected structures and varieties along with their interactions. Protected structures showed significant effect on all the characters under study. Leho type polyhouse produced statistically higher yield than all the other polyhouses; although the net head weight in all the poly structures was very less. Time of sowing/transplanting should be advanced by 20-30 days in order to get good net head weight and yield.
