Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during 1995–96 and 1997–98 to evaluate the performance of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) under different sowing dates and herb-cutting management. Differences in seed yield due to different sowing dates were not significant. Fresh herb yield of earlier sowing dates (1 and 15 October) was significantly better than later sowing dates (30 October and 15 November). Gross returns and benefit: cost ratio were also higher in earlier sowing dates. Seed yield and yield-attributing characters were significantly more in pure seed crop than all other herb-cutting treatments. The herb-cutting treatments had significant effect on fresh herb yield and each delay in removal of herb increased the fresh herb yield significantly.
