Online Published on 20 January, 2024. Abstract Brassinosteroids (BRs) are a class of polyhydroxylated steroidal phytohormones which play pivotal role in the regulation of various plant growth, development and metabolic processes. The review gives a brief account on the brassinosteroids role in plants, their defence mechanisms against different abiotic stresses, their biosynthesis pathway involving specific substrates, enzymes, products and their genes. However, additional research is needed to fully understand the specific mechanisms underlying BR-mediated stress tolerance to develop its practical applications in agriculture of economic importance.
