“Role of women in agricultural marketing”

Summary

Women are the backbone of agriculture work force mainly is the countries like India. They are contributing about 60 to70 per cent of the labour requirement in agriculture operation. If we want to empower women,then we must give equal chance to women with men without doing gender partialty. Role of women is important in order to eradicate poverty, ensuring food security and decreasing economic contribution etc. in the growing situation of the world both the gender has given important in decision making on all mater, but women suggestion are not given importance because of illiteracy and little time to know about the latest techniques of farming so they need empower through various training programmes. They should be educated in order to increase the great women resource in agriculture.

The study reveals that,the decision making process is an important segment of every household because it makes implementation of a plan or programme quite easy. In rural areas of the country, both husband and wife are jointly responsible for making decisions on all matters like family obligations, specific housing charges and purchase of household articles. However, women suggestions are not given due consideration in the decisions pertaining to agricultural sector and important family matters.The participation of women was maximum in hoeing, weeding,transplanting,reaping the crop,scaring the crop bird etc. & such field work.In India,many parts of the state determines women participation in agriculture by their age,marital status,land of holding,their economical condition. A Self Help Group (SHG) act as a platform to empower women in all aspects like economical,p sycological,cultural,legal & political.NABARD helps to providing credit to the group of rural women (SHG) to start new agriculture based enterprenuers. This gradually builds financial discipline in all participated womens. They also learn to handle resource of a size that is much beyond individual's capacities. Self Help Group provide an opportunity to be self employed and earn some livelihood support to womens &their families. Consequently a number of self help groups (SHGs) were formed, trained, and linked to the market with an intention to empower the rural women socially and economically. Women extension functionaries and professionals will certainly help to address the needs of farm women more effectively and efficiently. The farm women will also be able to shed their inhibitions and avail extension services freely. Programmers for training and transfer of technology and skill should be tailor made for farm women, if they are to be brought in the mainstream of agricultural development,then & only then we will empower women with her huge role in agricultural activities. There are lot of Opportunities for women in agricultural marketing.Women Advisory Service Providers in Food Processing Sectors & they were trained on various value addition and processing technologies through oncampus and off-campus trainings.
