Abstract Chemical reaction–diffusion media represents information processing means capable to efficiently solve problems of high complexity. It was found during the last decades that chemical reaction–diffusion media could be effectively used by the media by means of physical stimuli and fabrication of multi-level reaction– diffusion systems. An important challenge of the current nano-bio scenario is identifying and treating the environmental contaminants and preventing pollution, which are obligatory steps in environmental sensing and informatics. Although, we focused on the theoretical aspects, experimental implementation is also possible. Environmental informatics is a promising novel topic of interest to a wider audience.
