Abstract Aim To evaluate different chair side Preventive Promotional Programmes that includes oral health education and supervised use of mechanical and chemical oral hygiene aids. Materials and Method A parallel randomized clinical trial was designed on 150 subjects in the age group of 18–25 years. 150 students were divided into five groups. Control group and 1 to 4 as a test group. The Plaque was assessed using modification of the Quigley-Hein plaque index by Turesky S, Gilmore N.D and Glickman in 1970. Results There was a significant decrease in the plaque score in test group 2, test group 3 & test group 4 when compared at the start and at the end of the study. The difference in the accumulation of the plaque was statistically significant. Conclusion Tooth brushing and other mechanical procedures are considered to be the most reliable means of controlling plaque, provided the cleaning is sufficiently thorough, and performed daily.
